What is it with teams in the playoffs that lead in shots on goal, but lose the game? The New York Rangers outshot the Washington Capitals, but lost 1-0 due to goalie Braden Holtby’s amazing play. The Capitals lead the series 2-1.

It is not to say that Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist played a bad game. The only goal the Capitals scored was an absolute fluke. Jay Beagle’s shot rebounded back to him and his next shot deflected off of Lundqvist’s skate into the goal.

Holtby faced so much pressure the entire game, but saved all 30 shots on goal, including this crazy shot.

Yes, that is Rangers winger Martin St. Louis hanging on the crossbar.

Overall, the Rangers attempted 69 shots on goal. Rick Nash led the team with 15. He has only one goal in eight games in the playoffs. He just could not beat Holtby.

The Capitals also shut down the Rangers power play. They have allowed only one power play goal in the postseason.

There were only four penalties in the game and not too many skirmishes for two teams that hate each other.

Game 4 is Wednesday night.
