Rep. Mike Kelly: Democrats’ ‘Main Concern Is Not Getting America Healthy,’ but Defeating Trump

Democrats prioritize defeating President Donald Trump in the 2020 election over addressing the coronavirus outbreak, said Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), offering his remarks on this week’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Sunday with host Joel Pollak.

Pollak noted that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Democrats blocked Republican attempts to pass a $250 billion extension to the Paycheck Protection Program while recalling Barack Obama’s claim in 2013 that Republicans were “holding the whole country hostage” during congressional negotiations over the federal budget, related appropriations, and the debt ceiling. “Every time it was, ‘Republicans are taking our country hostage’ [and], ‘Republicans are terrorists,'” Pollak said. “That’s literally the kind of language that was used. Why does Nancy Pelosi get away with it? She has stalled the CARES Act. She’s blocked the Paycheck Protection Program. Why is there a double standard when Democrats want to stop the spending to save American jobs, to save American livelihoods?”

Pollak asked, “Why are [Democrats] not treated the way Republicans are vilified when Republicans simply want to balance the budget in good times when we can afford to do so?”

Kelly described complicity between various news media and the Democrat Party.

“They defy logic,” Kelly said of Democrat and news media narratives. “They defy the truth, by the way. They spin their own story, and a lot of those people are not news people. … They’re just sensationalists.”

Kelly added, “The complicitness with the media in some cases has been overwhelming in their bias against this president, but I think their main concern is not getting America healthy, just making sure that President Trump doesn’t get reelected. That’s their main goal. They think that’s a great accomplishment.”

Kelly continued, “There’s bigger fish to fry right now. We’ve got to get people healthy again. The political battle can take place once we’ve gotten through this pandemic, but to use the pandemic — and I think it was Rahm Emanuel who said to never let a good crisis go to waste — to try and change the narrative to make this about a political battle.”
“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” said Rahm Emanuel in 2008, then chief of staff for President-elect Barack Obama.

Democrats are attempting to use federal coronavirus relief funds to finance their current and proposed left-wing policies, Kelly observed.

“[I watched] Mayor de Blasio on the TV talking to Wolf Blitzer,” shared Kelly. “I sat back and said, ‘Could anybody be more disingenuous than this man?’ We can pull a whole list of remarks that he made early on in January and February acting like this whole idea of this coronavirus being serious was a joke.”

Kelly added, “I listened to [Bill de Blasio] the other night, and I said, ‘My God, this man has run his city into the ground,’ and one of the things [Democrats] want to do … is they need funding for poorly run cities.”

Democrats are trying to “use the coronavirus” to buoy their economic failures due to “their lack of leadership,” concluded Kelly.
