EAGLE PASS, Texas — In two separate events in as many days, nearly 800 migrants managed to cross the Rio Grande and surrender to Border Patrol. One group of nearly 400 crossed on Wednesday and another similarly sized came early Thursday.

Armed Human Smugglers Arrested in Texas After Crash on Railroad Track near Border

A multi-agency effort led to the arrest of two United States citizens accused of smuggling five migrants in remote South Texas. After fleeing a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint, the two smugglers led law enforcement officers on a vehicle pursuit that ended when the truck crashed onto railroad tracks in La Salle County, Texas. After searching the vehicle, officers discovered a loaded handgun.

Feds Intercept 176 Haitian Migrants in Sailboat off Florida Coast

A Customs and Border Protection flight crew detected a grossly overloaded vessel 25 miles northeast of Anguilla Cay, Bahamas. The aircrew notified the Coast Guard on Monday night and coordinated a joint interdiction. Personnel onboard the Coast Guard Cutter Paul Clark intercepted the vessel near Key Largo, Florida, and discovered 176 Haitians aboard.

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents in Niland, California, discovered a group of migrants aboard a northbound freight train attempting to bypass the established highway checkpoint. In one event, agents found 26 migrants hiding in the rail cars. Information provided by the group led to the eventual arrest of an additional 16.

Migrants Account for 1 in 4 Births in Southern Mexican Border Hospital

The Tapachula General Hospital in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas recorded 932 deliveries during 2021 solely to migrant mothers. The births at the hospital account for nearly 1 in 4 deliveries in a city of more than 350,000 residents. Tapachula sits on the Mexico-Guatemala Border and is the primary crossing point for thousands of migrants hoping to reach the United States. This emerging trend represents a challenge for U.S. authorities eventually tasked with removing a nuclear family where citizenship differs between parent and child.

Manhunt Underway for Suspect in Texas Human Smuggling Plane Crash

Authorities in the West Texas town of Presidio issued an arrest warrant for the person suspected of piloting a single-engine aircraft with five migrants on board. The plane crashed shortly after take-off from the Presidio Airport. The Presidio County Sheriff’s Office issued the warrant Saturday for Tobias Penner Peters of Seminole, Texas.

SHOTS FIRED: Border Patrol Vehicle Struck as Agents Arrest Migrant

Border Patrol agents attempting to arrest a migrant near Fronton, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley came under gunfire Saturday morning. As the agents attempted the arrest, several shots were fired at them from Mexico. The agents avoided injury during the incident that damaged their patrol vehicle.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Deletes Its Reports about ‘Potential Terrorist’ Arrest in Arizona

Official Facebook and Twitter posts on Yuma Sector Border Patrol and Chief Chris Clem’s accounts regarding the arrest of a “potential terrorist” disappeared after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) deleted the reports. Citing a violation of protocols and inappropriate release of sensitive information, all social media were scrubbed by the federal agency. The postings from December 20 indicated the agency determined an arrested man linked to Yemeni subjects of interest.

DEL RIO, Texas — According to a source within Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a 47-year-old Cuban migrant died after collapsing in a Border Patrol detention cell in Comstock, Thursday. The man was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced deceased. The man had been in custody since Sunday and was awaiting transfer to ICE.
